This book is over sixty years old now, and I do not recommend it as much more than a potential training manual. While some advice might still hold up, reading this without double-checking information can call for a bad time.

As with I think most people, I looked at this book more for the lovely pictures of dogs than for specific information about dog breeds or the care and feeding of dogs. This is a good enough book for dog lovers, but it doesn't really stand out from the wall; there are many books very much like this which can be found in the bargain book piles of Barnes and Noble, etc.

My version published in 2006. Nice section in the front with a lot of good information on choosing and caring for a dog. Big book with great glossy pictures showing two or three very nice pictures of the breed and a paragraph of details of the dog. Box of info with size, (height/weight), grooming (simple, medium), exercise and Temperament.

Doesn’t seem to have as many breeds as other books, not so much history but more on the trait or temperament of the dog, so overall I think a very show more pretty book to sit on your coffee table or a reference for the breeds it covers. show less
