Carre White has done it again! I fell in love with this lovely story of Cassie and Nathaniel. I love how Ms. White created Cassie as this stubborn mule-headed woman who won't really accept the fact that her parents really do have her best interest at heart. Yes, they appear nosy and meddling, but it's quite humorous really.

A shootout...a moment of weakness...and all of Cassie's plans to avoid Nathaniel have just gone down the drain. She's "compromised" and now it looks like marriage is best show more course of action. Of course, she's as mad as a hornet that the whole town thinks she's already engaged when she's never really given her consent! She wants to marry a real man: someone with manners, someone respectable, and someone who really would be a suitable husband. In her eyes, Nathaniel has all the manners of a drunk ox.

A book that is definitely worth the read. I'll be watching out for more of Ms. White's novels. If they continue to be this good, I should be downloading more of her works soon!

If I recall right, I think I read this book back in 2014, and I just finished re-reading it now. My feelings about the book are just as positive now as it was the first time around. Hannah is fiery woman--very passionate about her life and her dreams for the future. Her husband, Frank, has spoiled her terribly, out of life and I think, out of a sense of duty to maintain as much of her Eastern lifestyle as he can afford.

Nathan Weaver is a man who has just as much fire as Hannah. But in show more Hannah's eyes, he's the wrong kind of man to be around because her Eastern parents would never accept him in her circle or theirs. When Frank dies unexpectedly, Hannah falls apart. Nathan is the only one who can get through to Hannah, despite her stubborn nature. (Takes one to know one, right?)

It's a lovely book and one that I'll continue to re-read whenever I'm in the mood. I'd also like to continue the series that Carre White wrote because I'm hoping that there is more to the story between Hannah and Nathan.

Great story!

It comes as no surprise to say that I enjoyed the book. It's an easy read for a Saturday night. The cholera epidemic was a nice touch to the story as it allowed opportunity for Samuel to show his true feelings for Paulina. Baby Laura losing her parents added to the drama. It also reflects the culture of the time. You took in orphans and raised them as your own. No waiting period. No legal formalities. You just did the right thing quietly and moved on. I am already looking forward show more to the next book in the series! show less
Excellent character development. It was easy to picture it happening. However, I was troubled by the fact that the author allowed Chastity to have feelings for a man who was not her husband. As I continued reading the story, the interaction between the two felt more like an emotional affair. I would not recommend this to my Christian friends.
