Search for Silver Eagle was my favorite book in the Young Refugees series by Ed Dunlop. The adventures of Gretchen and Hans continue in Southern France as they work to save an injured Allied pilot from certain death behind enemy lines. The story is a page turner with lots of "harrowing chases and narrow escapes." It's also a story about how bitterness and hatred eventually lead to destruction and the redeeming power of forgiveness. One of the best parts of this series is how Hans and show more Gretchen talk about their faith and trust in God despite their circumstances. show less
Sherlock and his friend Penny Gordon walk in on a robbery in progress at their town's only bank. The robbers cleverly frame one of the kids' good friends, who feels helpless to clear his name. As Sherlock painstakingly pursues his investigation he finds a clever cover up and an inside job.

Sherlock employs some smart and very bold maneuvers as he collects information to corner the robbers, including a disguise that even completely fools Penny herself. Sherlock cracks a seemingly fool-proof show more case, to right the wrongs in Willoughby once again. show less
Penny and Sherlock feel as if they've landed in the lap of luxury when they are invited to vacation in the plush lakeside lodge of a wealthy friend. But it soon becomes evident that the young detective team is not going to enjoy a quiet retreat. As they begin to uncover the secrets of some shady activity at a neighboring estate, their investigative zeal gets them a little too close. Close enough to be captured by the enemy!
The Young Refugee Series is a great historical fiction series set in Europe during WWII. The series follows siblings Hans and Gretchen as they try to help others escape the Nazis. Book three of the series finds our Hans and Gretchen helping to save Jews in Hungary. This book shows Hans and Gretchen's concern for others and Hans has the opportunity to share the gospel. The book does contain descriptions of the Nazi's cruelty toward the Jews and Hans and Gretchen face several near death show more experiences and the hands of the Nazi. show less
