Reviews
It's winter in Peabody, Wisconsin, and there is plenty of excitement afoot at the Derwood household. Wise-cracking siblings Jack and Penny become entangled in an international smuggling operation and the nonstop adventure of cracking a dangerous case. At times, however, it is hard to decide which is a greater threat: seasoned criminals or neighborhood bullies.
This book (and its sequel) are quite unlike any Christian fiction I've ever read. You can't help but cheer on Tracey and feel emotionally connected to the story. The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is because of all the Catholic bashing.
Second in Jeri Massi's Peabody Series, A Dangerous Game is an enjoyable read most suitable for the 8-13 age bracket. The story is narrated by the main character, William "Scruggs" Grady, who has grown up in foster care and recently become a Christian. Scruggs' faith is challenged when he's sent to live with a relative he's never met, and asked to live in a way that conflicts with his new beliefs. When Scruggs refuses, he begins to realize that his new home may be more dangerous than it show more seems. I read and reread this book as a child. Although it's not my favorite in the series, it is a quick, fun, and (for a kid), exciting read. show less
Fun, if you employ a willing suspension of disbelief. Explicitly Christian although not didactic.
