A Course in Miracles, Combined Volume: Text, Workbook for Students, and Manual for Teachers by Foundation for Inner Peace
I have not completed the course yet, but I have been working on it for several months now. Already it has radically changed my perceptions. It proposes a way of saving ourselves and all those around us from the heaviness of our egos. It explains how to raise yourself out of ego perceptions, which is huge because as much as we might want to love our neighbor, we don't exactly know how to do it. This course teaches you a practical way to do that. It is truly life altering. With that said, show more there are parts that are difficult to read. Dr. Schucman did not always word things in easy to understand terms. I think this might turn some people off, but I would encourage you to stick with it because there are some incredible ah-ha moments in this text. This lessons are really useful too, especially as you get a little further along in them. I have never read any self-help book as awesome as this one, if it can truly be classified it as self-help. show less
Mastering the course becomes the goal rather than attaining peace. Only 5% in and struggling with three pages to explain what should have been 3 paragraphs. Wordy, repetitious, often contradictory, and most pseudo-quotes from the Judeo-Christian Bible out of context and misinterpreted. Found some nuggets here and there, but there are too many books on forgiveness and peace out there, to wade through the knee-deep wordiness of Course in Miracles. See my library for books I've loved.
Will try show more another 50 pages.....
Did another ten and can't continue with this random, non-sequential, disorganized, word salad. FINISHED. show less

Fascinating and at times difficult view on life. Basic teachings are that the world doesn't exist and we only exist in God. There is choice between fear and love at each instant. We are spiritual beings that will be fulfilled when we return to God. Teachings at time seem to take in ideas of there being no self.
Sat on my shelf for quite a while - read Gary Renard and Marianne Williamson to introduce me to it gently - started reading in Feb 2008 when I moved back home to care for my dying mother. It carried me through. Applied the daily lessons over the next 18 months bizarrely leaving the last week till recently, 3 years after starting. Have now completed.
No need for anything else, this is all I need to know.
But other books help to expand, and whilst you only need to read and apply this one once, show more I will do it again. Understanding constantly deepens. show less
