The definition of prostitution is the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment.
And no matter how many times Mia attempts to justify her deal with Adam, it is exactly that. Selling your body, or parts of your body, for money.
This was a weird fucking book. Like an interesting weird. I’ve NEVER read anything remotely close to it. That's for damn sure.
I originally chose to read it because of the gaming aspect. I love that Mia is an online gamer (although show more I’m accustomed to more of a console type gaming) and she is working towards being a doctor. Her life is normal and great and I wasn’t prepared for what would happen. (Yeah, I read the synopsis but I didn’t realize it would be done so bluntly).
So many books that I’ve been reading lately have a heroine with a terrible sexual assault history that ruins their chances with future men. I saw it coming in this one and didn’t know how it would affect her relationship with Adam. (Not that much, actually. She’s had years to recover and apparently talking about it to a shrink solves all problems. Kinda pissed me off).
Mia was actually a very strong character. She’s had a rough hand of life dealt to her and she keeps on going. (I, on the other hand, go into an emotional loss every time I watch an episode of Supernatural). She perseveres and looks forward to her future. As much as it saddened me to read what had happened to her, I saw that her future was much brighter and I felt better about finishing this book.
And then Adam shows up, winning bidder of her strange ass auction, and her whole life erupts into something more.
Better? Maybe.
Confusing? Totally.
Sexy? Oh, yes, Mr. Drake. So much of that.
Adam Drake is an interesting character. The gaming nerd of our dreams all grown up. Suit and tie wearing business tycoon. Adam is sweet and I loved getting to know his family! That may have been my favorite part of this entire book. He grows throughout the book and becomes better for it.
At Any Price is written very well and the author handled the situation as best as she could, considering the circumstances. I don’t know how she thought this up, but Lifetime needs to put this in pre-production immediately.
Because as strange and awkward as this book is, it’s an enjoyable read. I loved all of the characters. There was humor where need be. My eyes got all teary a time or two. It was just a cute, weird, sexy book.
I’m rambling, I know. It’s cold and I’m waiting for the Doctor Who special to start and my feelings for this book are strong. show less

Did anyone not see the "twist" in this one coming from a mile away? I did like that the characters in this book have a bit more depth than you see in a lot of the genre. The obstacles in their relationship, while mostly of their own making, are at least the kind of obstacles that real people throw in their own way. So I enjoyed it well enough, but I don't know that I'll be racing out to get the rest of the series.
Killing me. That’s what you’re doing, Mrs. Brenna Aubrey. You’re killing me with this couple.
This couple that doesn’t know what is best for the other. The couple that doesn’t know how to have a multiple sided conversation. These 2 people that are holding all these internal thoughts that are begging to be spoken, but instead say shit that messes everything up. But at the same time, I love them. And I want them to be happy. I need everything to be okay.
But let me ya’ll why it’s show more not okay.
Adam is extremely selfish. He HAS to be in control or else he feels like nothing will be done perfectly. He has issues with letting Mia live her own life. He’s interested in his own personal benefit without giving thought to what she would want.
And some of it is understandable because after all, Adam is a multimillionaire with a capital company who is used to playing dirty for what he wants, but you can’t run a relationship like a business. And after he finally realizes this, it’s too late.
Mia, on the other hand, refuses to let anyone help her (other than Heath)! Damn, woman. PLEASE! Just ask for help. Confide in the people closest to you. Otherwise, all the shit going on will eat at you a thousand times worse.
I loved reading from Adam’s perspective. Mrs. Aubrey does a male’s viewpoint very well, and I couldn’t see much resemblance in his and Mia’s.
At Any Turn has none of that money bullshit hovering over their heads. It’s a real relationship, not a contracted one.
And, lord have mercy, sexy as hell. (The mirror scene. That is all).
Even though I had an idea of what was coming, what the heartbreaking reveal of hers was going to be, it still shook me to my core. I had goose bumps at the final sentence and just cried for a few minutes after I turned my Kindle off. (A book hasn’t hit me that hard in a very long time. Like since The Fault In Our Stars or Thirteen Reasons Why or Hopeless.) Emotionally drained.
From where all of this is going, the next book is going to be hard to read. But I guess I have a while to mentally prepare until it is released! show less

Well, I actually wasn't sure what to think about this. I thought the premise interesting, but I was wary, since a romance that starts with selling of virginity... Well, maybe a bit too Pretty Woman... although, I do like that movie :) But the thing is: this could've been really interesting. But then why would someone who has been sexually abused by her previous boyfriend would ever think selling her virginity is a good idea? I think the main character should've been more ok with the whole show more thing. Then again, who would be the guy that would buy your virginity and who you would fall in love with... I was a bit disappointed that an interesting premise was made to such a stereotypical romance book. Well, I knew there was a big risk that that would happen, and I went and read anyway. Also, this whole insta-lust is as annoying as the insta-love in ya books. Well, maybe there could be insta-lust, but that it's everywhere all the time. I don't know, I might go back to the ya for awhile, I think I've got an overdose on the sexy times (who would've thought...?). show less
