I received my copy of this eBook in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This was a fun read! If you've read [b:Stunner|18584170|Stunner (A Ronnie Lake Mystery, #1)|Niki Danforth|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1380050125s/18584170.jpg|26320990], I think you're a little bit better prepared for the story (lots of allusions to things that happened on her "last case" that you don't get real clarification on) and maybe it explains more of the Ronnie Lake character than you get here show more (I didn't know any more than the blurb about her) but this was a fun read! It can stand alone, but it's better following the first book in the series.

Ronnie Lake reminds me of an older Veronica Mars. She's blonde, sassy and won't let a lead go like a dog with a bone. I like her!

Ronnie is much like a Veronica caricature to me - and I love Veronica Mars, so that's saying something. If she already had the police talk down, she'd be fabulous!

A short, fun read for anyone who likes lady sleuths.

I must say that I think this book will become an instant classic for young girls. I was taken with this books charm and characters. It will transport you back to your youth while reading. It is nice to see an author writing for young girls as something other than being a princess or being part of a gossip club. This is truly inspiring for young girls. The illustrations throughout the book are beautiful just like the story.
I remember as a young girl wanting to live on a ranch with my own show more horse just like Moxie. Moxie is so excited when she wakes up on her 10th birthday. She has been dreaming of her own horse for years. She wants to be a barrel racer and win lots of awards like her Granny Rose. But, as we all know things don't always work out the way we plan in our heads. Moxie does get a horse but not the young one she was hoping for instead she gets Misty a 30 year old black mare with a sway back. That night when she has taken care of Misty and gone to bed she reads a note that was left for her under her pillow. Her Grandpa had left it for her saying that Misty may not look it but she is a very special mare and give her a chance. Special???
While she and her best friend Pickle are at a rodeo watching his cousin Sue barrel race they over hear something that will begin a mystery and adventure of a lifetime. And maybe just maybe she will begin to realize just how special Misty really is...
This wonderful book has it all from wild horses, bad guys, adventure, mystery, and even some magic?
I recommend this book to those from 5 who need it read to them to 9 and up who will enjoy it on their own.

Ronnie Lake is a middle aged woman who appears to be very protective of her brother and sees his new girlfriend Julianna as being a bit too perfect. She becomes suspicious of her after her niece Laura informs her of some weird goings on with Julianna. Ronnie immerses herself in trying to find out all she can about the woman, which leads her to the mystery of the story.

I found Ronnie to be a likable character if a bit too nosy for her own good. I did enjoy the humor involved of course and show more the plot was well thought out. There are a few 'accidents' that lead Ronnie down a path that she probably stay out of, but she is bound and determined to 'save' her brother from any more heartache. Along with her faithful dog and a man in her martial arts class, they investigate all the clues that puts everyone in danger.

I enjoy a book with a strong female character and Ronnie certainly is one of those. I think this is a book that can be enjoyed by the person who enjoys a good mystery romp.

Received this book from Amazon free book month. Really enjoyed this read. I remember growing up wanting to be a private investigator and then taking martial arts classes but not completing. Ronnie Lake brought back memories from the past but overall the concept of the story was great. I love the dog Warrior, what a good companion. I also had a Shepard when I was a teenager. Without spoiling anything, I was so looking for the long term love connection . I hope he returns to her someday.
I show more would recommend. show less
