Tape lo leí en menos de 24 horas, no porque fuera hella entretenido sino porque es considerablemente cortito. Okay, no fue un libro malo pero sí sentí que pudo haberse trabajo un poco más, incluso para la versión ARC que tengo.

A pesar que todavía no leo Landline de Rainbow Rowell, tengo la sensación que la historia tienen cierto parecido, si no me equivoco el libro de Rowell es sobre dos personas de diferentes épocas que se comunican a través show more de un teléfono ¿? En Tape pasa, como lo dice en el nombre, con un cassette. ¿Se acuerdan de los cassettes? No son de mi época exactamente pero sí, tuve algunos, ya cuando empezaron a desaparecer. Si eres joven pero hípster, de seguro tienes un case para el iphone en forma de cassette. O algún parlante para el ipod. O al menos has visto uno (están bastante caros esos juguetes).

Tape no me terminó de convencer, tiene un argumento bastante agradable, el libro está narrado a dos voces. Pero los saltos en el tiempo que esperé notar, no fueron tan resaltantes como hubiera esperado. Más allá de la mención de los cassettes y alguna que otra película por ahí (Jurasic Park, Volver al Futuro ♥), no hubo más. Entiendo que escribir una historia de este tipo es muy difícil, pero creo que algunas menciones a la ropa o… a algo, cualquier cosa que me hiciera sentir que de verdad estaba leyendo dos épocas diferentes.

¿Me entretuve? Sí ¿Esperaba más? A pesar de los comentarios que había leído sobre el libro, no quería creer que no era la gran cosa.

Lectura rápida, además que no está centrada en USA sino en Europa, no está tan-tan mal.

Having heard Steven on R4 recently giving a spoken word workshop which was awesome and deciding we must have him in to school to work with our students, I was so disappointed with this. I struggled to feel involved with the characters, struggled with the tape recordings device to link 2 stories 20 years apart(and I AM a child of the 80s!)and just found it all rather boring. I guiltily skimmed the last 1/2 of the book and am now relieved to find (on Good Reads) that I am not the only one.

I show more was expecting the sort of cut-to-the-chase-prose Steven uses in his live work but it just wasn't there. The writing was too simple and unimaginative, the dialogue a little confusing and the ending a tad predictable.

Really wanted to like this. Great cover and I thought it was an interesting story/idea but in the end it just didn't work. Didn't help that the writing wasn't great. Read some of the DNF reviews when I was about 80 pages in and I was still getting into it at that point. I did manage to finish it but it really was bad unfortunately.
