Full, readable explanation of Seyder Tkhines and other women's prayers from 1648 through 1720, giving the historical background of that time in Europe, the status and literacy of Jewish women, the expectation of the coming of the Messiah and therefore the need for all Jews to pray, how Seyder Tkhines could fulfill the Jewish woman's Halachic requirement to pray once a day, that this collection of prayers was frequently bound together with the traditional siddur, that praying with show more understanding, and thus in Yiddish instead of Hebrew, was necessary for praying with kavannah and that prayer should be done with kavannah. The first half of the book is full of explanations, the second is the English translation of the Seyder Tkhines and additional individual prayers for women in Yiddish, also that Yiddish books were popular at this time and the Seyder Tkhines was likely to sell more books.I recommend the book for its history, examples of women's prayer and Yiddish literature. show less
