Even if you are not into woodworking or hand tools, this book is worth reading because it is a look inside the mind of a master craftsman. The illustrations are beautiful, the explanations are plain and easy to understand, and the plans are easy to follow.
This book not only demonstrates the steps of binding and re-binding books but gives instructions for making many of the tools out of easily available materials. It would be possible, though difficult, for a beginner used to hand tools to teach himself using it.
Rarer but fantastic book on book binding. It is extremely detailed rampant with beautiful handdrawn illustrations.
Good description of the purpose and use of the classic hand tools, including a few that are used less frequently these days (inshave?).

A copy of this and Hoadley's [b:Understanding Wood|156605|Understanding Wood|R. Bruce Hoadley|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1411948144l/156605._SX50_.jpg|151125] , and you're ready to get going.
