Ants and Their Nests is a nonfiction book about the different homes that anta build. The close up photographs help you really see the hard work that goes into their nests.
I enjoyed this book because I got to see ants and nests that you don't see in our area. I didn't even know there were yellow ants.
This would be a great book to use when introducing children to nonfiction books. It has all the important parts such as table on contents, subheadings, glossary, more reading, internet listings, show more and an index. The text is simple but informative. You could take your class for a nature walk around the school to look (not touch) at ant homes. This book would be a great addition to the class ant farm. show less

"Bears and Their Cubs" is a cute, short, informational book about bears and their characteristics. The author provides different details about bears, cubs, and their lives from birth to adulthood. I enjoyed the inclusion of multiple pictures throughout the books, with at least 1 on every page. This is a great book for young readers and I would highly recommend it. They are able to look at and analyze all of the pictures along with read the short sentences with straightforward information. I show more also like the inclusion of table of contents and an index because it presents these different parts of nonfiction text that they may never have noticed before. show less
Bears and Their Cubs by Linda Tagliaferro is a book written to support the science standards for life science. It is a really good book for young children to develop an understanding of how a bear takes care of her young from birth to adulthood. The text is simply written, yet it introduces a few new words, and uses repetition of the words to help students become familiar with them. This book has some fantastic photos that correlate with the text and make it easy for young children to take show more picture walks as well as read the text. The cover is beautifully finished with the same style of photo that is throughout the book.
As a book to enjoy and as an informational source I recommend this book. It has an easy to read and understand: Table of Contents, Index/ Word list, Glossary, Read More Section, and Internet Site Section. show less

Tagliaferro, Linda. Bruce Lee. Minneapolis: Lerner Publications Company, 2000. biography
Bruce Lee was not only a famous actor, but one of the most recognizable and respected martial artists who ever lived. That is why “Bruce Lee” by Linda Tagliaferro is an excellent subject for a biography that children can enjoy and draw inspiration from. The book traces the life of the legendary Bruce Lee from his childhood in Hong Kong through his untimely death at the young age of 32. It is packed show more with information on Bruce Lee’s life—his films, family life, movies, accomplishments in martial arts, and his overall legacy. It has many photos from Lee’s acting career (movie stills), pictures of his family, pictures of Lee in action, and even pictures of him before he became famous. Much of the information comes from interviews of people who were the closest to Lee. There is a special section devoted to “The Roots of Jeet Kune Do” (‘the way of the intercepting fist’), the unique martial art style developed by Lee. This is a great biography for children because Bruce Lee was not simply a martial arts fighter but a deep thinker who promoted virtues like discipline, honor, meditation, and courage. I highly recommend this book for elementary age children, but adults will enjoy it as well. show less
