There have been scores of biographies of Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj written by various disciples and devotees, but this work stands out as the best of all in many ways. It was the supreme effort of late Revered Sri Swami Venkatesanandaji Maharaj, who, while being a prominent biographer himself, painstakingly culled and compiled the matter from other biographies as well to make it most comprehensive. Suitable and attractive illustrations have profusely been added to enhance the show more value of the book. It is a must for any reader to know what is indeed the life of a true sage. show less

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are meant to elevate the spirit of every person. This is clearly the gospel of enlightened living, neither an escape from life nor a hallucinatory 'light'. The attempt in this translation of the sutras has been to expose that gospel, to avoid technicalities, and to relate the whole yoga philososphy to the ordinary and simple daily life of everyone. There are many, many commentaries of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras by by enlightened masters and others. This translation show more by Swami Venkatesananda, a spiritual master, stands out for its simple and lucid commentary.

"Love is the essence of yoga. If love is there, then whatever you do is yoga. If it is not there then whatever you do, it is not yoga. You can stand on your head for 6 hours a day and you will probably not have grey hairs, but that is not yoga; you are not a yogi. You can be a very religious person but still diabolical. The man who worship the deity in the temple may still have no faith at all. You may do all these things but none of these things is yoga - until you have discovered the key to show more life. The key to life is love. This is the essence of yoga.

This love is not what you and I have made it out to be - 'I love you'. In 'I love you' the 'I' is still there, and there fore I can stop loving you, I can hate you! Only when this 'I' is completely abolished and love alone prevails is it possible for that love to be natural, effortless, choiceless. You have no choice but to love because you are love".

by Swami Venkatesananda

Where is the love that is timeless? Who knows of it? In this beautifully presented little book one can begin to understand the nature of love.
