A quick and easy read, mainly because it breezes across the surface of a very interesting career. Lots of anecdotes and endless name-dropping - quite fun to start with, but by the end I was wishing for a bit more insight and a bit less "my good friend Kate Moss" blah blah blah. For me the real value was in making me look up some of the old boogie-woogie artists and learn a bit more.
Jools Holland has in recent years become a British institution, first as the keyboard player for Squeeze and then as compere of the excellent "Later with Jools Holland", which features performances by famous and not-yet-famous musicians of all genres. This is Mr Holland's memoir and it's an easy read. Fans will probably hear his humour-filled irreverance while they read; non-fans who are interested in the mind of a (very talented) musician will also find it worthwhile.
From schoolboy to Squeeze to Later and Jools' Rhythm and Blues Bad. Bit of a who's who of music industry - and thoroughly enjoyable
