DNF Review:
I wish I could say that I loved this one, and to be honest I was really in the mood for a gritty MC romance. This came to me by a recommendation of a good friend and honestly I have no clue how to tell her this just didn't vibe with me at all. I really struggled with this and read it both physically and through the audio. And it actually wasn't the actual style of writing. Nope I actually was very into the story. But the plot and character development left much to be desire. And I show more get MC romances I really really do! I need to feel invested in my characters and Lock and Grace have such a toxic relationship, its not even funny. There was a TON of cheating and sleeping around on each other. And what the club forces her to do, and the hero doesn't fight it at all? Just accepts his girl whoring herself for the club, and being around some dangerous drugs? All the while her sister is dying of cancer and she has a nephew to protect. This is NOT how MC's take care of their widows especially with how much she sacrificed for the club and then for them to ask her to do this. And the romance wasn't even a romance to be honest. I read almost to 70% of the book and they felt like strangers. There was hardly any time of them being together and that was disappointing because I had such high hopes because in the beginning their chemistry was EXPLOSVE and I just felt so disappointed. I mean are y'all five starring this book for the spice? Cause I just don't see how this is a convincing romance in any way. And now I need to heal myself with some Joanna Wylde who actually knows how to write a convincing romance in the MC world. *just saying* lol show less

I have had this series on my TBR for what seems like forever. However, when I saw that this was a prequel of sorts that showed the backstory of the series and how it came to be, I took that as a sign to finally start reading. I was not prepared. Seriously, I was not prepared. This book reads like poetry in parts. I connected with it. I am not sure if it is because I know what Rez life is like and the treatment of Native Americans since it is the way of life for many of my family. Maybe, it show more is because I am a product of the '80s and understand how times were during this decade. And maybe, just maybe, it is also because these characters and this story were truly riveting.
Wreck and Isi, sweet lord. This couple. Even though this is a romance between these characters, it is something so much more. It is a chance to discover things about themselves and find redemption and purpose. I can definitely see that waiting worked in my favor because having heard people rave about this series, I get the story from beginning to end.
I cannot thank the author enough for also putting in the statistics and history at the end of the book. It is painful to read, yet, I feel that it needs to be talked about more and not just brushed off. Whether it is popular or not, it is a part of history, one that there should be remorse so that it can be learned from and not repeated. Bravo to the author on this book. show less

Let me start this with, OH MY FREAKING GAWD! This is definitely a hidden gem. If this book doesn't take off, then I will be highly disappointed! It is one of a kind. It is full of raw realness that you don't find often in books!
Grace and Miller. These are two names that should be plastered all over blogs and reviews left and right! Oh my! This relationship is something else! It's not a quick build, which I love. It's slow and natural. It's raw and real. It's everything it needs to show more be!
I have liked most MC books that I have read. However, they aren't typically my favorite to read. They always seem to have something missing that I can never put my finger on. This one is missing nothing! It most definitely is NOT your typical MC book. It's about the MC, but it's not about the MC. It is more character-focused with the MC rules.
I may not have cried like a baby in this one, but I did cry... more than once! Just a few tears. But that says a lot coming from me. I am usually the one standing there scratching my head when people say they wept over a book. I am usually the one sitting here looking confused and baffled on what part or parts had others crying crocodile tears. Now this one, there are some really raw moments. So if you don't cry or shed a few tears, then there is something wrong with you!
Miller and Grace. These are names I should be seeing everywhere in the book world. Where are you people? Why aren't you gushing about this badass couple? They are both strong characters who deserve their spotlight! Their pasts have shaped who they are and where they are in the present. And the story of how they came to be where they are is no joyride either. It is rough and heart breaking, which is what makes these two the perfect characters in this story. They aren't sappy and lovey dovey (thank goodness). They are bold and strong.
Now, you are probably wondering if I loved this book so much, why not the 5 stars? I will tell you why not. It's not necessarily a deal breaker, but it did stop me from giving it that last half a star. I know, I can be picky sometimes. The beginning of the story almost put me off. The opening was way too descriptive. It wasn't all needed, and it almost put me off of reading the book. I prayed it didn't continue throughout the story. Don't worry, it didn't. Then the ending. Once everything is wrapped up. Then the story continues for a couple more chapters AND an epilogue. I get it. Cat wanted to give us that extra ending. But, again, it was overkill. Those chapters and the epilogue could have been summed up in one chapter and a short epilogue, and we still would have gotten the same effect. I found my self begging for it to be over, but it kept going.
In a nutshell, this book is kick-ass! You would be a fool to not read it! show less

I will be honest, the cover of this book is what drew me in. I wasn't expecting that I would enjoy it as much as I did. This is a new to me author and her ability to write with such depth and detail absolutely blew me away. She did not scrimp on setting up a scene, characterization, or on creating a suspenseful read
So much chemistry between Arturo and Adriana. To the point that when the steam finally happened it was breathtaking. I loved the ties and references in the story show more regarding Greek mythology. And the first few lines in the book had me sucked in. I was once told that the first few lines can make or break a book. In this case, it was true. show less
