This book is an interesting approach to learning how to design woven cloth. The first section is an exercise in weaving a gamp - in this book called a sampler blanket. For the American weaver, the format is unconventional. There are warping plans, threading plans, lifting plans and wefting plans, but all seem to be explained thoroughly at the beginning of the book. The second section deals with design - structure, color, color and weave and more. Part 3 has 50 projects using a wide variety show more of color and techniques; mostly four shaft but a few grand designs for eight shaft table looms.
This is a terrific idea book and it could be used as a self-study in design, or as the text in a study group. All the photos are in color and the whole book is visually stimulating. Great addition to the weaving library. show less

In addition to the introduction and basic information, this book is divided into five different sections. Each section is devoted to a different topic and each section gives instruction on a sample blanket to introduce you to the many variations and possibilities for that structure.
The structures covered are as follows:
Four shaft Color & Weave and Eight shaft Block Weaves
Stitched Double Cloth
Deflected Double Cloth
Summer & Winter
Log Cabin and Shadow Weave
Most of the sections contain numerous show more tie ups and draft information and include some projects.
This would make a terrific study group and would probably need a couple of years to complete. Highly recommended. show less
