The story of how marine biologists Michael Bigg, John Ford and Graeme Ellis created the non-invasive Orca identification program, enlisting hundreds of volunteers. Non-intrusive photography was used to identify individuals, allowing for multigenerational study of pods and family relationships, as well as seasonal mapping. This system was then used globally to study marine mammals.
