A little girl is frustrated that her potted plant won't grow no matter how much pizza and her other favorite foods she tries to feed it. When she throws a fit and tosses it outside, the sun and rain bring forth the flower she desired.

A clever and fun way to be educational.
Fran is a little girl who finds a flowerpot with a tip and decides to take it home to take care of it. Because she doesn’t know how to take care of plants she decides to give all kinds of food people and animals eat in order for the plant to grow. Little she knew that it was not that kind of food the flower needed. When she finally gets tired and throws it outside where the plants gets air, water, and sunshine, something starts to happen. Beardshaw uses canvas-like colorful pictures to show more display the story and Fran’s dog effortlessly trying to help her. A science unit on plants will benefit exploring the story and pictures as learners analyze Fran’s efforts to care for the bud. show less
Fran's Friend is a sweet book about a dog longing for attention from his owner and best friend, Fran. Throughout the story Fran is busy making something special for her "best friend." Her dog Fred is trying to get her to play with him but she remains busy at work, leaving Fred feeling jealous. In the end Fred discovers Fran was making something special for him! A good story to read to children to encourage trust in friendships.
There was a new girl at storytime who refused to talk or sing, or do any of the motions with anything UNTIL this story. She then quietly said that flowers need sun and rain, not pizza. SO CUTE!
