Quilts: The Fabric of Friendship: The York County Quilt Documentation Project by York County Quilt Documentation Project
Many states have undertaken statewide quilt documentation projects. In Pennsylvania, quilting history is so rich and so deep that the quilt documentation projects were done by county.
The York County Quilt Documentation Project cataloged over 1600 quilts. This book contains nearly 200 color photos of quilts, many accompanied by family stories and local history.
The area now encompassed by York County was part of William Penn's 1681 land grant. The earliest documented York County quilts date to show more the 1790s. York County has large populations of Quakers and Pennsylvania Germans, two groups notable for their wonderful quilts. Quilts from the southern end of the county show the strong influence of Baltimore Album quilts. show less
