Indexes: Topical for scripture readings, Scriptural for Scripture readings, Authors Composers and Sources, metrical tune index, Topical index for hymns, First line and title index, Hymns have title which may or my not be the first line. Author and composer are listed below the the hymn.
The preface by Grady Cothan states that this colllection is being issued in an era of unparalleled richnesss in musicology and hymnology. The introduction points out that Baptist congregations are autonomous and free to sing songs from any compilation they choose. They note that the first Baptist hymnal was titled Hymns and Spiritual Songs, Rhodesia Isalna 1766. Many hymnals have been published by individuals, Baptist associations and publishing houses. The Broadman hymnals was widely show more accepted by Southen Baptist churchs but did not bear the name Baptist. This hymnal is in the traction of the Broadman hymnal. Tune names are usually first line unless the tune is more widely known by another name. Author and composer are listed with the hymn. Meter is noted in an index not on the hymn page. If tunes are repeated for another hymn they are often in another key and this is noted after the hymn. Measure for suggested introduction are marked on the score. 512 hymns.
