Chasing Evil: Shocking Crimes, Supernatural Forces, and an FBI Agent’s Search for Hope and Justice by Robert Hilland
You know, once in a great while a book surprises you and really, really makes you think. Maybe even change your entire perspective on life. Such was the case when I read this book, Chasing Evil.
A great story of how an FBI agent faces a seemingly unsolvable crime(s), involving a serial killer. Not a quick resolution, he chases the suspect from one end of the country to another, and it takes YEARS! This alone made for a great story.
Where it really got me was when he enlisted the famous show more psychic, John Edward, on the case. I worked in law enforcement for 28 years. I was absolutely confident in my opinion that psychics were a bunch of phony, attention seeking, charlatans. That has now changed! I was shook to my core after reading the first few chapters. HOW did Edward know all of the things he pointed out to Agent Hilland? Not just things about the case that he might have read somewhere, or have perceived from his conversations with Hilland, but things about the agent that no one should have known. Sometimes things that Hilland didn't even know about his own family. I have to assume Hilland is telling the truth, as I for one still have a great deal of respect for the FBI. I'm telling you, if you read the first part of the book and do not feel your assumptions about psychics slipping away, you're a lot more pessimistic than me. After reading the beginning, I had to actually put the book down for awhile. It disturbed me that much. I picked it up a couple days later and couldn't read it fast enough!
What a fantastic story! What a fantastic collaboration between Hilland and Edward! What a great ending!
I wonder what could happen if more police could enlist psychics more often. Perhaps some of the thousands of cold cases could be cleared up.
Consider my mind blown! show less

Chasing Evil: Shocking Crimes, Supernatural Forces, and an FBI Agent's Search for Hope and Justice
By John Edward and Robert Holland
This was a book that tickled all my book itches! It had suspenseful and intriguing cases, a serial killer that gets away repeatedly, and a real psychic that helps on these cases for his friend, but stays anonymous. Some of the the things the psychic tells the FBI friend makes no sense at all until the agent is in the right place or time. It was really chilling show more how accurate he was.
I love fiction books like this but to think this is real really makes it that more spectacular. Totally enjoyed the whole book! None of it was beyond belief.
I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this amazing book. I shed tears for the victims but was amazed at the way some of the criminals were caught. show less

Chasing Evil: Shocking Crimes, Supernatural Forces, and an FBI Agent’s Search for Hope and Justice by Robert Hilland
Although this book reads like fiction, it's compelling true crime that bridges a celebrated FBI agent's career with the psychic abilities of his friend and sometime-partner in solving crime, well-known psychic John Edward. And partly because it's difficult to understand how or why these two particular men would put their names to a book like this if it weren't true, along with the undeniable case results that came from psychic abilities...well, the book is just as hard to disbelieve as it is show more to believe, and it makes for a fascinating read.
There are some difficult-to-read chapters, including ones that detail Hilland's duties on the day of 9/11 and then in the aftermath of the investigation/clean-up, an investigation regarding the death of a child, and his work interview Michael Vick about dogfighting. There are potentially other chapters that could be more upsetting to other readers, but these are the ones that I found the most difficult to get through.
All that said, the book is far-ranging, compelling, and well worth the read. I'd recommend it to anyone who's at all interested, whether they're a true crime reader or not. show less

Chasing Evil: Shocking Crimes, Supernatural Forces, and an FBI Agent’s Search for Hope and Justice by Robert Hilland
I really enjoyed this book and it reinforced my belief that some people really do have psychic powers. I think those people are few and far between, but this book made me feel like someone could not possibly understand or know the things he knew without having some sort of clairvoyance. This book is incredibly well written and reads like a fast paced fiction novel. It’s extremely interesting. I would love to read more stories about his time at the FBI. This isn’t your typical paranormal show more story, so it might be more interesting to those who enjoy true crime. But you’ll have to keep an open mind as it’s hard not to believe. I received an advance copy in return for my honest review. show less
