As an adolescent and teen, Josh was always a little bit geeky and awkward, which might explain why he only had one girlfriend (in eighth grade, for 23 hours). At the ripe old age of 25, he looks back on his romantic misadventures in middle school, high school, and college, wondering where, exactly, he went wrong. Being of a mathematical and scientific bent, he forms a hypothesis about each of his crushes, then attempts to contact the girl to see if his hypothesis is correct. In many cases, show more what he learns surprises him.
This book was a lot of fun to read, though it did sometimes evoke that squirmy embarrassed feeling you get when you're reading about a person about to do something potentially humiliating, and you (the reader) are powerless to stop them. Josh's experiences rang true for me, since I have also experienced a certain amount of failure in the romantic realm. It's always nice to know you're not alone! I did wish for a little more explanation or closure in some cases, but I realize that's not always possible in real life. I though Josh's conclusion about why things went down the way they did was accurate, and something that I should remind myself of occasionally. All in all, a highly enjoyable light read. show less

When he was 25, Josh Sundquist came to the realization that he had never had a girlfriend. And so, being the math and science nerd he is, he went over his memories of all the girls in his past that he had wanted to be his girlfriend, came up with hypotheses as to why it didn't work out, and then went to talk to them. This book is the hysterical result.
I'm an occasional viewer of Josh's YouTube channel and being less than successful in the romantic realm myself, I figured his newest book show more would be an interesting and relevant read. I was more than right. Josh's tales of his crushes and his attempts at serious dating are hysterical. I giggled my way through the entire book, chortling over his misadventures with girls. It was also interesting to see just what hindsight brings to crushes and attempts at relationships as Josh talks to the girls from his past. But it was Josh's final conclusion towards the end of the book about just why he'd never had a girlfriend that hit me because it's something I needed reminding of. Funny and smart with a dash of insight, I highly recommend this one. show less

nitially, because I didn't read the author's notes first (who does that?!?!?) I was convinced that the author had some intimate knowledge with the visually impaired world. But now that I've finished the book and read the authors notes, I realize he did his research, which REALLY paid off imho and made the book SO enjoyable. I loved the humour but also the way the book made me reexamine some of the things I took for granted. Can't wait to share this book with my middle school readers. I show more predict they're gonna love it. I've already purchased a second copy instead of Valentine's Day chocolate. show less
I really did not expect to love this book, but Sundquist strikes the perfect note, keeping the sentimentality, religious reflection (which I understand some people enjoy but is SO not my thing), and hand-wringing to a minimum and balancing the dark moments with wonderful levity that will make Just Don’t Fall appealing to a much wider readership. I’m giving Just Don’t Fall an enthusiastic 4.75 out of 5, and I don’t think I’ll soon forget this story, the first one that ever made me show more find a motivational speaker endearing.
