I was surprised to find a book so detailed on the account of this subject written at a level for higher grade school kids. It made me wonder if kids can take on this serious of a topic and educate themselves, then what has been adults problem for the last 300 plus years. The photos and artist renditions paint an accurate ugly picture of an ugly time.

Curricular connection: Great for middle readers in the learning of American History or African American History events.
