Holy fk. My last review compared this series to a Law and Order SVU episode. This one takes it straight to Criminal Minds territory. This was fantastic. I've spent the last five minutes cackling hysterically over the ending and Phin and Harry. Fk. This was great.

It is pretty graphic though. And pretty disgusting. It's a lot more crass than the first two. But it's still extremely well written and funny and riveting. The plot is full on. I felt sorry for Jack - all the bad news that kept show more hitting her was horrible. Plus all the hits Herb kept taking. But she's totally badass. And Herb is ready to eat.

The cat gets me everytime.

A purring sound made me turn around. Mr. Friskers was sitting in McGlade’s lap, a dead rat in his jaws. “Good kitty,” Harry said. “Good fucking kitty.” And he continued to pet him until the ambulances arrived.

Konrath, J.A.. Jack Daniels Series - Three Thriller Novels (Whiskey Sour #1, Bloody Mary #2, Rusty Nail #3) . Kindle Edition.
Well...the cat and Harry.

I can't recommend these books highly enough. They're amazing.

Successful. I say successful because if the author wanted to make me squirm and completely creep the hell out of me, then he was truly successful in my opinion. Being in the head of a psychopath is not a place I want to be as experienced from the hair-raising writing of Mr. Konrath's. I've watched many a procedural crime shows but was never privy to the killers sociopathic mindset. I was not only thoroughly frightened but angry. Angry that there are actually monsters like this out there. show more Such a believable character, unfortunately.

Lieutenant Jack Daniels came across as a real life cop, bad-ass and sarcastic. Loved the sarcastic dialogue, something you would expect from cops, especially working in such a macabre work environment. A little humor goes a long way. The supporting characters also added to the believability of the story as well. From the over eating partner to the dumber and dumberer FBI agents. A cast of characters that are very likable and equally hateable.

Being in the head of the killer was so frightening it definitely added to the intensity of the story. It made me more anxious to see the killer caught. I felt like I was there along with Jack and Herb as they investigate the case step by step. Suspensefully spine-chilling and believable.

A truly heart-stopping read that really gave me that on the edge of my seat feeling I normally only get from watching. I really felt like I was seeing the story unfold like a movie in my head.

Second time reading Endurance, I had a craving for a dark page turner last night and this fit that order. I enjoyed Endurance just as much as the first time, possibly more since I knew the ending. Super creepy, the descriptions literally made my skin crawl at times.
What sets this apart from other violent horror for me is the characters. It is such fun rooting for your favorites, you really want to see them survive. I also love that Kilborn writes such kick-ass female characters. show more

Konrath/Kilborn is not for the squeamish but if you enjoy fast paced horror give him a try. [b:Afraid|5122520|Afraid (Afraid, #1)|Jack Kilborn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1325286696l/5122520._SY75_.jpg|5189311] is a good place to start.

FYI there are a few typos in case that bothers you, if you can set that aside it's a great read!

DRACULAS is a fantastic antidote to drippy, dreamy vampire romances. This is vampires as they should be: relentless, terrifying, bloodthirsty monsters. Vampires are on the loose and multiplying fast in an isolated rural hospital. A small band of characters caught in the chaos must fight for survival, because help probably isn't coming. This is classic, old-school man vs. monster horror. Great action, gruesome humor (including intestine jokes), beheadings, disembowelings, MacGyver-worthy show more tactics, massive firepower, love requited, desperate last stands -- it is a fun read from start to finish.

The characters are sufficiently fleshed out for you to care about their fates. You'll want to root for the heroes, and hiss the villains. But don't mistake this for some deep psychological character portrait. Get with the program--it's draculas on the loose!

Joe Konrath (writing as Jack Kilborn) and his co-authors Blake Crouch, Jeff Strand, and F. Paul Wilson obviously had fun putting this gorefest together. That is evident in the bonus material, which includes the email traffic among the four authors as they co-wrote the book over several months, DVD-style deleted scenes and alternate endings, as well as samples of their other work: novel excerpts and complete short stories.

DRACULAS is a big, bloody bucket of fun!
