I loved the first book I read in this series, and this latest book has sealed the deal, I'm a fan. I love the characters, the twists, the setting in Wales, and the cozy mystery feel to this police procedural. The novel is fast-paced, the writing flows well, and it's hard to put down. Honestly, if you're not into dark and gritty, this is one of the best police procedural series I've read in a while. Not as light-hearted as Hamish MacBeth series, but a serious contender for best small-town show more police procedurals.

A nice twisty thriller with plenty of suspects that all seem to alibi out. Being the holidays I had the luxury of listening to this in one sitting. I have to say the audiobook was hugely entertaining because my mind was constantly darting back to sitting with my then 4 year old son and 3 year old daughter as they sat watching the exploits of naughty Norman as he got himself into one pickle after another in Pontypandy. The narrator sounds exactly like any number of the characters from Fireman show more Sam (UK version). So I was constantly grinning even though the detectives were seriously examining bodies and crime scenes. I loved the mix of old and new guard in this police station rumoured to be where all the 'useless' cops are shipped off to. Detective Sergeant Norman Norman (not a typo) and Detective Inspector Sarah Southwell were engaging main characters and I can see some of the side characters have potential to have really interesting storylines in the future. I will definitely be following through this series as I love a good redemption story. show less
A solid police procedural set in a small village in Wales, this book is part of a series, but it's the first novel I read by the author. The book can be read as a stand-alone but I enjoyed it so much, I plan to go back and read the previous ones in the series. I love the Welsh countryside as a setting and the murder mystery is fast-paced, keeps the reader guessing, but I was especially fond of the wide range of well-designed characters that make up the police team. These characters made all show more the difference between just another cozy mystery series and one that truly stands out as your next favorite. For readers who prefer clean reads or just not in the mood for more at the time, I don't recall any language and there were no steamy romantic scenes here, just a good old police procedural.

Llangwelli, Wales. In a village of derelict cottages, about to be demolished, a body of a female is discovered in one house, and blood and evidence of occupants in another. Meanwhile DI Sarah Southall is sent to an attempted suicide. Southall with DS Norman and their small team investigate when a second body is found.
A well-written and entertaining modern Welsh mystery with its cast of likeable and varied characters. Another good addition to this enjoyable series.
