Not a bad short prequel, but nothing like the power of the series it introduces
By itself this is an okay short story, but it’s clear that, at this point, the author was still developing the character of Dan Kotler, so it is more of an artist’s sketch than the rounded, complex character that appears in the Coelho Medallion.
If you’ve read some of the full length novels in the series, you’ll enjoy this little side dish.
If this is the first time you have come across Dan Kotler, then show more enjoy it, but don’t judge the series by this prequel. There are much more powerful thrillers ahead. show less

How much do you value your freedom? That is what is at stake for the world in this third novel in the series..
It begins with a wealthy retired rock star using his resources to find a better way of combatting deafness. From that worthy objective comes the possibility of a dreadful weapon. Theft, murder, kidnapping, treachery, fist-fights and gun-fights ensue as archaeologist Dan Kotler and his FBI friend and colleague Roland Denzel race to use their unique mix of skills to prevent show more disaster.
The two main characters continue to grow and develop, and I do recommend reading this series in order to appreciate this and to see the ongoing effects of past events. Neither man is a superman or infallible, and In this book both protagonists (at different times) suffer crises of confidence in their suitability for the work that they have fallen into. It is interesting to see how each is handled.
This is an enjoyable series - as witness, the fact that I am currently re-reading the whole series prior to starting the latest offering, book 9, “The Hidden Persuaders”. show less

Up to his neck in danger in a Mayan Tomb
Why was the body of a Broadway star (missing for 5 years) found in Mayan tomb hidden deep in the jungle? FBI agent Roland Denzel and his colleague and friend Dan Kotler are drawn into the investigation. What at first seems a simple accident proves to be neither simple nor accidental as a cryptic message leads the duo to suspect that the tomb contains something far more dangerous than hidden traps à la lndiana Jones.
This fourth outing for Dan Kotler show more is well up to standard with thrills and threats and surprises galore. This series is always a fun read. Highly recommended! show less

Christmas with Kotler
Someone has stolen the bones of the Saint. Who you gonna call? Kotler and Denzil, of course!
An enjoyable short story, with a nice sting in the tail for Kotler.
