A Gift for the Flaw-Plagued Photographer

I will admit it. Many of my photos have flaws. Many have not been preserved properly.

They represent memories, however, so I am reluctant to toss them in the trash. Katrin Eisman’s book equipped me with the skills to restore them to a state to which I can be proud. This book has helped me take my well-intentioned, yet poorly executed photos, correct the color, contrast and tone. Mold, cracks and torn edges mystically disappear.

The moments I attempted show more to preserve were precious to me. The beautiful images that result from her easy to find, easy to follow, step-by-step instructions are a gift. show less
The Creative Digital Darkroom promises to be a book about photographic post processing, instead of a Photoshop tutorial. And while that book is hidden somewhere in there, the majority of the book is in fact a Photoshop tutorial.

As Photoshop changes with every version, as YouTube is flooded with ever more photographers looking for a side business in teaching, and as different tools cater for different workflows, the value of Photoshop tutorials is getting lower and lower. Personally, I am not show more interested in Photoshop.

Still, many of the lessons in this book were valuable, and could be easily translated to my tool of choice. I just wish it focused more on photography than on Photoshop.
