A little heavier than chick lit but only a tiny bit.

An extended family travels to India for a lavish week long celebration and they meet and mingle with all sorts while they are there. We explore relationships old and new plus cultural differences between countries with a bunch of laughs interjected via the fame hungry wedding planner.

I liked this author’s other book The Windfall too but there’s something about the books that keeps me just at arms length. I love how the characters are shown to have these really funny quirks (like Mr Das and his Fitbit) that make them real and loveable but there is still something about the narration that keeps me aware that these are characters and not actual people. I want to feel like they are real people.… (more)

I found this to be a very enjoyable read. There are light moments and funny bits but there is tragedy mixed in. It was interesting to see how the Jhas deal with suddenly having money they have never had before. And it was both funny and sad to see how old 'friends' reacted to their good fortune. I liked hearing all the internal thoughts. You got to see the same event from everyone's perspective. In a situation where everyone is worried about what everyone else is thinking it's fun to know all those thoughts and how often they are not what is feared. I'm interested to read more by Basu.… (more)
