The author, according to his biography, was actually a general in the Second World War. This account of a week in the life of a young general posted to a supposedly safe area that suddenly comes under heavy German attack has such a ring of authenticity that it seems he must have based characters and incidents on his own experiences. He writes clear prose too. Stories about battles are not usually my "thing" but I'm glad I read this one.

In this novel a Cuban defector informs the CIA that the Communist plan a nuclear attack on Washington D.C This will take place on the swearing of a new President. So a secret Army unit is sent to destory the hidden weapons. Action pack fun, but filled with one dimensional characters.

Webb Quarterhill, former captain in the Confederate Army, finds himself in Wyoming, a member of a US Cavalry troop chasing down Indians who have fled the reservation. His leadership skills become evident when the troop of green soldiers flees from their first battle. Needless to say, Webb, by his example makes soldiers of them and wins the day. An entertaining if predictable read.
