Merrill R. (Rick) Chapman has worked in the high technology and software industries since 1978 as a programmer, salesman, field sales engineer and marketer. He is the managing editor and publisher of Softletter, a twice monthly publication focusing on the business realities of running a successful software company. He is also the the president of Aegis Resources, a consulting firm that specializes in enabling software and high-tech companies to create lean, fast-moving marketing and sales operations that generate revenue quickly.

Rick is also the author of The Product Marketing Handbook for Software (with the 5th edition due at the end of January, 2005) and co-author of The US Software and Distribution Guide. He enjoys writing, lecturing, and consulting about various aspects of high-technology marketing. The companies he has worked or consulted for include Ashton-Tate, IBM, EntireOne, Inso, Lucid8, MicroPro, Microsoft, Novell, DataEase, Stromberg, Sun, Ziff Davis and many others.

Il libro è farcito di metafore allo scopo di rendere la lettura più accessibile, ma ci sono anche imprecisioni qua e là (ad un certo punto con nonchalance viene detto che Apple è di proprietà di AOL).
Gli ultimi due o tre capitoli sono comunque più interessanti e meglio scritti rispetto al resto del libro, secondo me. Qualità un po' altalenante, rivolto comunque al grande pubblico.

An excellent source of information, analysis and good laughs. It's one of the few industry titles that will give you a large supply of stories to re-tell to other developers over a beer. Chapman's book is also an excellent case study collection of anti-management rules that one should avoid when running a high tech company.
