Grim Green World by Roger D. Aycock
Four ships have failed to reach the moon--and now the fifth is headed for disaster also. The clever twist at the end is a bit outdated, however. The author should have thought about a destination much farther away.

Clever post-apocalyptic story, but perhaps politics and religion are the enemies--not science.
Bleak but effective story of a man who thinks there is an alien presence on Earth--and tonight, he has caught one of them!
