I enjoyed this sociological/historical study of what it means to be Irish American. So many times while reading this book I thought to myself "yes that's me" or "that just like my family." It's nice to a book that clearly understands both the Irish and American aspects of our culture. It's also nice to read a book that makes you feel good about yourself and your Irish-American ancestry.

An enjoyable introduction into some of the influences and experiences of Irish immigrants in America. The book is uneven. Dezell appears to have written this in unrelated installments. She repeats herself several times.
