Pretty high yuck factor. Once again, poor Deanna gets abused/ torn apart/ attacked... you know what I mean. Only, this time, she rescues herself and a whole lot of other people. Go girl!

I haven't read many of the Star Trek Dominion War books yet, though I did see most of the DS9 episodes about the war. That said, I have always loved the Planet and people of Betazed. How the fact that they can sense each others feelings and thoughts. The different levels of telepathy and just all the ways the show (and novel) writers made these Betazed people look almost like us and yet they were so, so different. (Also, my very favorite Star Trek novel is "Imzadi", a book that mostly takes place on Betazed).

Unfortunately this didn't have as much about the Betazoids as about the multiple battles going on so that Starfleet could retake Betazed. Both the internal battles of Deanna Troi as well as the few outward battles going on against the Jem-Hadar and Cardassians.

The main question of this book is, what would you do to save your people? Would you perhaps doom your people's future to save your race in the present?

It's an often used question in books, the deal with the devil, and I thought it was presented in an interesting way in this book. Still, I would have loved more info on the Betazoids (or Betazed), but that would have just been a cherry on top. As it was this was a fine four star sundae itself.

Quite light on the paranormal end of the scale, well for me it is, I read a fair number of paranormal novels in my year.

Trish Devlin goes to an exclusive resort that her sister, a reporter went to try to get an interview with the reclusive Quinn Stephens, to see what's happened to her sister. She has O'Neill minding her, a man who turns bodyguard as things start getting fraught. Quinn Stephens is a man of mystery and several people want him for different reasons.

It's light fun, pretty predictable but pretty well executed.… (more)

For those who ever felt that Deanna Troi and the rest of the Betazoids were nothing but wimps, this is a book to read. It reminds that even the gentlest and most peace loving will fight when needed.
