Serial Burn: (Christian Suspense Thriller with Mystery and Clean Romance with an FBI Agent and Fire Marshal) by Lynette Eason
How do you catch an arsonist who leaves nothing but smoke and silence in their wake?
Lynette Eason ignites the pages with Serial Burn, a wildfire of suspense, faith, and second chances that had me hooked. This isn’t your average hunt-for-the-arsonist thriller—it’s a blazing reminder that sometimes the hardest flames to fight are the ones inside us.
Jesslyn McCormick doesn’t just know fire—she’s lived through it. Lake City’s fire marshal carries more than just a badge; she carries show more the weight of a blaze that shattered her world twenty-five years ago. When a string of fires rattles her community—including one too close to home at her church—the past crackles to life in a way she can’t ignore.
Enter FBI Special Agent Nathan Carlisle, a man with his own scorch marks. Nathan’s steady faith becomes the anchor Jesslyn didn’t realize she needed. His reminder that “God knew what was going to happen. It didn’t take Him by surprise” feels less like a platitude and more like a lifeline tossed into rough waters.
The chemistry between Jesslyn and Nathan is the slow, steady kind that burns long after the flames die down. Watching Jesslyn wrestle with God in the aftermath of her pain -- her honest question: “Why didn’t He stop it?”—hits like a backdraft because we’ve all been there, standing in the ashes wondering why the rescue didn’t come.
Eason expertly crafts mysteries, weaving puzzles that play with your head. Every twist was like trying to outrun a fire line—you never know when it’ll shift direction.
But what really makes Serial Burn unforgettable is its heart. It’s about redemption, forgiveness, and learning to step out of the ashes without smelling like smoke. Nathan’s quiet words to Eli, “The issue isn’t you forgiving yourself, but accepting the forgiveness that God offers you,” will stay with me.
If you’re craving a story that lights up your faith while keeping you guessing, Serial Burn is your match. Eason delivers a firestorm of suspense wrapped in faith that smolders long after the final page.
I received a digital ARC of this book from the publisher, Revell, and NetGalley. I am not required to write a positive review nor paid to do so. This is my honest and unbiased review. My thoughts and opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on the writing and story’s content, ensuring transparency and reliability. show less

New SWAT team member Kenzie King finds herself the target of a killer and Cole Garrison becomes her protector in this contemporary story that's set in Lake City, North Carolina. There is, however, a satisfying historical element as author Lynette Eason shares entries from a journal written almost a century before by Cole's grandmother, Eliza Crane. Who would imagine that a tragic event from 1947 would be such a relevant part of Kelsey and Cole's current story?
I loved Target Acquired! I loved show more the surprising connection between Kenzie and Cole that reached back through two generations and the twists, turns, and non-stop action that kept me turning the pages. My heart was captured by the swoon-worthy attraction between Kenzie and Cole and my detective skills were tested by some clever revelations! Throw in an inspiring faith element and the result is a captivating read for fans of romantic Christian suspense!

Holiday Homecoming Secrets by Lynette Eason is an intriguing story. The action begins right away and does not let up until the end. I found Holiday Homecoming Secrets to be well-written and it moved at a quick pace. Lynette Eason certainly knows how to ramp up the suspense. I thought the characters were realistic and relatable (well, except for the killer). The story has a complex plot that kept me engaged. Jade Hollis is a detective with Cedar Canyon Police Department and has a five year show more old daughter named Mia. Bryce Kingsley has returned to his hometown after being gone for six years to establish a PI practice. He has no idea that Jade had a child after their one night encounter. I bet he will regret not contacting her now! Bryce had been dealing with some rough stuff and he is still not completely free of his demons. He has an adorable dog, Sasha who travels with him. The pair must put personal issues aside while they search for their friend and journalist, Frank Shipman. I enjoyed the multifaceted mystery with the dangerous encounters. I like that it is balanced with time spent with the kids, Jade’s parents, and trimming the tree. The romance hit just the right note. I was worried it would be the prominent feature of the book, but I was wrong. The author managed to create an intriguing and balanced story. I liked the addition of the parents who foster children and currently have siblings residing with them. You will not want to put down this page turner. Holiday Homecoming Secrets is an enthralling story with has cute kids, a darling dog, a predatory perp and serious secrets. show less
Oh, this book was so much fun! I've thoroughly enjoyed the original Elite Guardians series and the new Elite Guardians Collection but this book has to be my favorite so far. Kelly Underwood has a gift for weaving intense, nail-biting suspense into an intricately layered plot with characters you'll fall in love with. There were quite a few suspects as the possible villain and the villain actually had a voice in the story, which made the plot all the more interesting. The action was well-paced show more and there was never a dull moment with Laila and Preston.
Laila seems like such a dichotomous character at the beginning but we learn that she only wants and needs acceptance and unconditional love. Preston is an open book, willing to own up to his past sins and make restitution for them. His solid faith, sole reliance on God, kindness, and tenderness make him an incredibly attractive hero. I loved catching up with the old and newer members of the Elite Guardians.
