Monkey Island; or, The Emotions of Polydore Marasquin by Charles S. Cheltham

Mostly of interest as a precursor of Tarzan, the novel is still fairly entertaining. The original illustrations in its initial magazine run were by Gustave Doré. The magazine version had an introduction, which stated that the novel had been sent from China to a fiction contest in France.
