This indepth look at the life of a fascinating man, a seeker of life through philosophy, his life is brought into clear focus with the writing of Pupul Jayaker. She had an unusual friendship with Krishnaji from her vantage on Indian society. In her own right she is recognized as a philosopher and cultural leader herself.

Her long years in friedship with Krishnamurti and sources never before revealed round this book out to something that should be read and savored and should always be on the shelf of any good library, prominately up there with the other classics of religious studies.… (more)

Within the Mind was published in 1982 by the Krishnamurti Foundation India in Madras, and compiled by Pupul Jayakar and Sunanda Patwardhan.

The book contains 18 essays focusing on different aspects of Krishnamurti's teachings.

1. The Teaching -- A Dialog: Transcript of a small group discussion with K. which took place on 11/19/74 in Varanasi. K defines what the teaching is not.

2. Krishnamurti and Self Knowledge: A "personal enquiry" written by Pupul Jayakar in 1950, and describing her experiment in self-knowledge through observation of her thoughts.

3. The Relevance of Krishnamurti: A social and political analysis of K's impact by Achyut Patwardhan.

4. Insight, Knowledge, Science, and Human Values: from a 1979 talk by David Bohm. Topics: What is knowledge? Insight and human values. Insight in science. Insight, imagination, and reason. Insight and values.

5. Buddhism and Self-knowledge, by Jagannath Upadhyaya.

6. Krishnamurti and the Psycho-therapists, by David Shainberg, summarizing a two-day conference held in April 1975 in NYC, between K and 25 psycho-therapists, which sought to investigate the implications of K's teaching for psychoanalysis. Like oil and water.

7. Encounters with Krishnamurti: Pupul Jayakar's intimate depiction of her first meetings with K, written in 1948.
