The Martyrs of the Cornhill by Nina Frances Layard
In 47 small pages the author describes how one of her ancestors witnessed the burning of two protestant martyrs in 1556. The style is late Victorian and breathlessly impassionate. This is a labour of love and a skillful one at that. Although published by the family firm it is no mere vanity.
