'Voices from Woodbrooke' was published to mark the occasion of its centenary in 2003. Contributions were invited from as many 'Old Woodbrookians’ who could be contacted, inviting them to submit personal memories or reflections of their association with this venerable centre of Quaker Study.

The response was exceptional and the question then was to agree how best to structure them. Instead of a conventional sequence of chapters arranged chronographically, the editors instead chose to group them by chapter, each headed with the name of one of the physical spaces within the Centre itself.

The result is a 'collage of voices' stretching back to the early days of the centre that resonate throughout the fabric of the building. Together they tell the story of how the former home of George Cadbury became ‘a place of the heart’ where Quakers in Britain could come and reflect upon their relationship with Quakerism and assess their personal commitment to the Religious Society of Friends.

That the spirit of, and affection for Woodbrooke has endured over ten decades is surely reflected in this collective memory of Quakers and others from across the world.
