The Molly Lou books are some of my favorites. The stories are sweet and full of heart, but the best part are the illustrations. David Catrow has a way of capturing not just the spirit of Molly Lou Mellon, but of all kids, and all fun-loving adults. This isn’t the best Molly Lou book, but it is still her heart and rambunctiousness, and her need to be unique. This is a book for my collection for years to come.

Molly Lou Melon is short and clumsy, has buck teeth, and has a voice that sounds like a bullfrog being squeezed by a boa constrictor. She doesn't mind. Her grandmother has always told her to walk proud, smile big, and sing loud, and she takes that advice to heart.

But then Molly Lou has to start in a new school. A horrible bully picks on her on the very first day, but Molly Lou Melon knows just what to do about that.

I found the art horrifying. My niece makes me read it to her 20 times a day. Help.

I have long been a fan of Molly Lou Melon, who is plucky and interesting and all that one hopes a child can be. I also love me a picturebook that is pro-imagination, so I am totally delighted with this new Molly Lou Melon offering. The thing that delights me most of all is that it took me most of the book to realize that new neighbor Gertie is a disabled child -- because that never matters to Molly Lou Melon, any more than it should matter to us.

Mari - Really cute. Girl creating things with household items. Traditional imaginative play. Maybe a good book for a concrete/rigid thinker

Molly Lou Melon is a tiny person with a big voice. She uses that voice the stick up for others.
The author and illustrator combine humorous text with cartoon like illustrations to present a fun lesson in doing the right thing. This book is recommended as a storytime or class visit read aloud. Through reading and discussion, children will learn valuable skills for school readiness.

We often tell children (and adults) that being unique is special and that being different is ok. Molly Lou Melon is different than her peers and starting in a new school. With self confidence and words of wisdom from family, she makes friends because she is a kind person.

I really love children's books. I have a small collection of them and continue to buy them as an adult, because I love the magic of the words in them and the illustrations. When people say they are in a reading slump, the first advice I give is to pick up a children's book!

Listened to Dolly Parton read this as part of her "Goodnight With Dolly" series. I love her soothing voice and how she always sings a little. https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/goodnight-with-dolly/

Picture / Graphic Novel

This book is about a little girl with buck teeth, she's extremely short, and she has the biggest eyes of everyone in her class. She stands out to say the least. Even though some of the kids in her new class made fun of her, she displayed all of her wonderful talents and eventually made friends with all of them.

I love this book because it teaches kids that it's okay to stand out and be different from everyone else because being like everyone else is boring.

Molly Lou Melon is an quirky little girl who embraces who she is with the guidance of her grandma. When she moves to a new school she is confronted several times by a bully, but she never lets him dull her shine. A sweet story about believing in yourself and ignoring doubters.

This is a great book about a girl named Molly Lou. Molly Lou is short, has buck teeth, not a normal voice, and a couple other flaws, but her grandma has taught her to love herself. So she does! When Molly is forced to move she is faced with dealing with bullies at school trying to bring her down, but it does not work. This story paints a picture of confidence and shows a strong bond between a girl and her grandma. I think it is a great story to share with the class to teach them to love themselves and the only opinion that matters is your own.

Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon is one of my favorite read alouds. In this story, Molly Lou Melon, the shortest girl in the first grade, has buck teeth, a froggy singing voice, fumble fingers, and loves every part of herself thanks to her grandma. Molly is soon faced with a difficult challenge, she has to leave everything she knows, including her friends, and move to a new town and new school. The school bully tries everything he can to bring Molly Lou Melon down, but her confidence holds strong through it all, and she comes out on top every time. The illustrations are bold, and funny, and an all time favorite of mine!

Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon is one of my favorite read alouds. A girl who has many differences with a great support figure in her life to encourage her to embrace her differences. When she encounters a bully, she stands tall and holds her confidence. Molly Lou Mellon teaches the bully a lesson by continuing to be herself. This is a great book for teaching self-confidence!

This book is a great story about a girl, Molly Lou Melon. She has buck teeth, a frog voice, is small, and loves to sing! She is different than her classmates in her new town and despite a bully, she rises above with some encouragement from her grandmother! Great book about having confidence in who you are because we all have strengths!

Molly Lou Melon is a really, very small girl; Smaller than the rest of her classmates. She has buck teeth and has an affinity for singing, even if she isn't very good at it. She is too confident to care about the bullies, however, and thanks to her grandmothers encouragement, stands tall with self-esteem. This is a great book to read to children to teach about overcoming obstacles, accepting oneself, and addressing bullying. The illustrations are wonderfully done, colorful and adorable.

Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon, written by Patty Lovell is about a little girl named Molly Lou Melon. She is a small, buck-toothed girl with a love for singing. She is a little different from other children but she does not mind. This book teaches children the importance of self-acceptance and self-appreciation.
