Another up-all-nighter (who needs sleep?)

This book, oh man. You know what? No, it's not that simple. I don't understand how Devon McCormack does it. Every book he writes has an ending I did not see coming! I don't know if I should be awed by this talent or angry that he keeps doing this. I'm toying with the idea that he may be a witch.
So back to the review. Steven, such a great character, I loved his self description of Charlie Brown. He seems like your average senior, just going to show more school, crushing on hotties, and ignoring his future, because yeah, at seventeen not everyone knows what they wanna do for the rest of their lives. I liked that bit a lot. Most characters I read about are more like Ryan, i.e. hottie being crushed on by Steven, knew what he wanted to do after graduation, and recently deceased. (Well maybe not the deceased part)
Honestly, at first I didn't like Ryan at all. He rubbed me the wrong way. He seemed kinda douchy and very ungrateful. Fortunately he grew on me and Boom, I was team Steven and Ryan. I know, I know Ryan's dead but darn it a girl can hope right? Plus they had to figure out why Ryan was hanging out as a spectral being. They go sleuthing to find out the truth and the twists and turns this story threw at me had me flying through the pages. I may have growled at my husband for interrupting me while I was at a particularly adrenaline fueled scene. It happens!
The characters and world developed by Devon McCormack were phenomenal. It's seriously like watching a movie when I read anything by McCormack. Will always recommend anything he writes, possibly even his grocery lists.

Before reading: Fuck that!

I'm coming prepared this time. :D

After reading : Holy shit...I think this was the most lubricated read I've ever seen from this author.

For some (or most), it'll be like this:

But for me it was like this:

#TEAMLUBE we're finally in something! *flails*
Sparingly but it still counts!

So let's say you skipped the blurb and the title...TRIGGERS: cheating, non-con, no HEA - no romance and the lead character Blake is a bastard. Actually, I'm unsure on his parentage so I'd show more rather call him a dingleberry. Because he's fucking mean.

And yet I laughed.

So who is the warped one?

Cancer survivor Blake has a pretty sweet life. He is cancer free, has a wonderful job, a loving and supportive boyfriend and seems to be a great life. But is he appreciative?

Nope.

The fucker thinks he's hot shit and loves torturing his younger boyfriend, Todd, mentally and sexually. And he especially loves sexing every other man other than Todd he can get his dick into.

And Todd is none the wiser.

Enter twinky college boy Kyle, one of Blake's side pieces, the masochistic bottom! (Was I surprised? Nope.) He gets set up into a threesome that turns into a love triangle that twists into something else. Now heavily dose this with fuckhot sex because this is Devon McCormack we're talking about here and you have a recipe for a twisty and edgy surprise.

Deviant at the end but surprisingly...light? I guess when you compare it to some of his other work. *coughs*Clipped*coughs*

I didn't see the ending coming (ha!) and I really liked it. For a short length, it left me satisfied. I have no burning questions that I need to bombard the author with. Everything really is tied up nicely and for the price, I think it's worth it.

My rating...4.5 stars because it made me laugh, groan and need to know more all at the same time.

P.S. This is my kinda of Santa jizz - no fucking Christmas sugar in sight! So if you're a reader in need of a break and want something twisty, erotic and you don't need romance, this might be for you. (I say this as I've only read one Jizzmas story so far this year and I needed it LOL)

P.P.S. In all seriousness, I want to thank my not-so-secret Santa (M), for gifting this to me! You're awesome! "

I don't review often but this one deserved it. Hart broke my heart with this one. She has a gift for getting you inside the heads of her characters. She makes you see and feel as if you are right there in their heads with them. She doesn't pull any punches either. This book is smothered in the aftermath of a suicide. It gives a very honest and raw glimpse into how a person's death has affected two people's lives and forever changed them. It shows the very real struggles of depression, mental show more illness, addiction, etc. and how getting help isn't always as easy as picking up a phone. Sometimes you have to fight for the help you need. (as wrong and as sad as that is.) There is also the look at how differently two people can see the world even when they are in the same situations together. This is not a book to pick up for light reading. It is full of pain and loss and countless triggers. But it also has a beautiful and raw side to it that made me feel it was worth it as well.

Be warned that there is a homosexual relationship at the core of this story (which the description is very clear about). I am aware that that can be an issue for some but is all you take away from this book is "but they were gay" then you completely missed the point and are missing out on the true value their stories have to offer.

Also, you may want some tissues. It takes a lot to get me to cry. I almost never even tear up at a book or movie but this one... I was reading while waiting for everyone else to arrive. As they did they were speaking to each other so i said I was going to finish the chapter (like a page and a half) then put it away. They started looking at me concerned as I put the kindle away because my eyes were so watery. I had to take several breaths and ask them to distract me so that I wouldn't full on cry right there in the restaurant.

3.5 Stars

Like the previous two books this had some fun, a lot of sass, and a good dash of dirty smexy, making it a consistent win.

Derek is the life of the party as he’s always looking for a hookup, always looking for a very good time. What he hides under that party persona is a guy who just wants someone special to call his own but who’s too afraid to let anyone in. When Derek gets into Jackson’s car thinking he’s his uber driver, he never would’ve imagined that something show more wonderful would come of it.

Jackson is the complete opposite of Derek. Responsible, stable, the caretaker of everyone in his life - he’s got a lot on his plate and though he’s been through a recent amicable divorce, he barely has the time nor the inclination to try out the other side of his bisexuality. When literally mischief falls into his lap, Jackson sees right through Derek’s veneer of fun superficiality and makes it a point to get to know the guy. What Jackson finds is someone with depth but who's also perfect for showing him the ropes, if you know what I mean. *wink*

For lovers of daddy kink, this just might be your jam. I’m not even close to being a connoisseur (it’s not my cup) but I don’t think many will be disappointed. Though a whopping 400 plus pages, this went down pretty easily. What Hart and McCormack excel at with this Metropolis series is that in and amongst all the hot gay singles finding their true love, there’s dashes of emotional gravitas, but never prolonging unnecessary melodrama. Let me tell you, I appreciate that a whole fucking lot. This has some ups and some downs, the obligatory roadblock that gets in the way of our MC’s happiness (although very briefly), with lots and lots of explicitness to satisfy most (though honestly, I could've gone with less use of the word “hole”, seeing as how it’s said 40 times).

Anyhoo. Consistent sexy fun.
