Baby, It’s Hot Outside Romance Collection – A Christmas Down Under

I have read four of the twelve stories; two authors I have read before, two I have not read, and there are still eight more novellas to look forward to reading and all take place “down under”, are steamy and will end with a happily ever after for the starring couple.

Kris Pearson is the author that drew me in – I love her steamy stories – and having other authors with holiday romances included in this anthology made it all the more intriguing.

The males in the stories read so far have been: a scientist injured on the job, a cowboy of sorts, a wounded military man, and a famous French actor.

The female love interests have so far been: a rather quiet solitary middle child sister, a horsewoman, a PR type daughter of a commanding officer, and a destitute woman thrown out of a job and taken in to be a nanny.

Some of the stories are no doubt part of a series but series that I have not read and some may be one-offs as they stand alone complete and perfect without a series to support them.

I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the future but want to get this review up now. The collection will disappear before the end of January 2022 so do pick it up before then, meet some new authors, and enjoy the holiday spirit…down under.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kris Pearson for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Promise You Nothing by Kris Pearson
South & Sexy #8

What’s a couple to do when the chemistry is off the charts, it could be they are soul mates, and the timing is ALL WRONG for both of them? What a wonderful story this one was!

What I liked:
* Emmie: strong, independent, in debt, grieving the loss of her brother, needs a solution or a knight in shining armor…or at least a carpenter.
* Josh: separated from his wife, father, starting over in a new town, more than a carpenter, capable, talented, smart, and more than a carpenter.
* Sparrow: daughter of Josh
* The supporting characters…likable and good friends
* The location – made me once again want to visit New Zealand some day.
* The relationship as it developed between Emmie and Josh
* The refurbishing of the old house…what a gorgeous place it would have been
* The communication, respect, and feeling of equal strength/partnership that no doubt would develop between the couple
* The chemistry between the couple and how they acted on it…even when they felt they might be wiser not to.
* That it seemed believable, and I felt as if I was part of the story
* Feeling I would like to have Emmie and Josh as friends
* All of it except…

What I didn’t like:
* Maria: Josh’s soon to be ex-wife…not much at all to like about her
* The bump or two in the road the two had…though they were overcome in the end

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely!

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Dead and Disorderly by Kris Pearson
The Merry Summerfield Cozy Mysteries #3

Poor Merry is jinxed…or so she thinks…stumbling across her third dead body in less than a year is a bit of a shock but she is up to the task of trying to out-sleuth the sleuths as she begins to determine who would want Matthew Boatman dead.

What I liked:
* Merry: divorced, living with her brother, editor, and pet sitter Merry seems to find herself in the wrong place at the right time…or is it the right place at the wrong time? She has her eye on a few men that might be love interests in the future, has plenty of friends in the community, has a soft spot for animals, and really loves to solve puzzles.
* Paul: Village vicar, ex-Army chaplain, dealing with PTSD, and not hard on the eyes. I do love the half smiles and twinkle in his eye.
* The orphaned cats and how they played into the story
* The supporting characters: Erik & Heather, John, and the others that show up from time to time as the series progresses.
* That it is in New Zealand
* The way the story unfolds…there were definitely some twists and turns I didn’t see coming
* That there will probably be more stories in the series to look forward to.

What I didn’t like
* The baddie I was meant not to like
* Having to wait for the next book in the series

XMAS MARKS THE SPOT by Kris Pearson
Merry Summerfield Cozy Mysteries #2

After reading the last word of this book I wanted to pick up book three and keep reading BUT book three does not exist yet! Woe is me! Once I started reading I could not stop. I love the characters in the book and couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next. This is a cozy mystery series that has something extra and that extra definitely appeals to me.

What I liked:
* This story made me think as it dealt with the real issue of PTSD with more than a few in the book suffering from it.
* Heather & Erik’s story...it made me smile
* Merry’s interest in finding answers...whether the answer to what was going on with Heather & Erik or who the rustlers were or who some in her community truly are and of course...how people in the story died and why.
* The story feels real and also it is not silly. It appeals to me as it has more depth than most cozy mysteries do
* The men in the book...oh my...I don’t know if Merry will get one of her own but there are some definite contenders!
* It left me happy at the end but also wanting more.

What I didn’t like:
*….nothing was missing and there wasn’t anything that I didn’t like….besides what I was meant to not like...thinks like the aftereffects of war, people’s inhumanity to their fellowman and things like that.

Did I like this book? Definitely!
Would I like to read more by this author? Without a doubt!!!

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
