This book was insightful and well written.

I had no information of the fashion industry, or Danielle prior to reading this book, and found Danielle's voice to be perfect for the journey into her world and struggles. She spoke to the newbie in the industry & upper class life which left me engaged instead of trying to decipher.

So many times I felt anxiety for her as she reveals personal thoughts, and self hatred that I can't even fathom what it felt like to hit the publish button on. The ending was way better than I had hoped for her, based on how recently a lot of the trauma described happened.

While I can see how some of the reviews paint this memoir as a spoiled girl who isn't blaming the right people (her parents) I also think it's important to acknowledge that Danielle is writing this memoir while still on her therapy and recovery journey. She acknowledges a lot of privilege while pointing out her influences, and it's clear her parents likely have their own memoir worth of trauma they went through as well that she isn't trying to step on.

Growing up with the same media, and magazine influences, her experiences with it had me reflective of my own takeaways from those same shows, bands and celebrities. It was fascinating to see how someone in a completely different walk of life was influenced by the same childhood favorites.

I think this memoir really lays out the fact that each generation can only make the best choices with the information we have in hopes to get a different outcome than the one that we came from. Once we know better, we do better, but it doesn't always mean it's going to be better as it takes everyone to make change, not just a single set of parents, or executives.

You'll love this read if you enjoy taking a walk in someone else's uncomfortable shoes.

Content Warning: Eating Disorders thoroughly discussed in deep detail.
