Max may look like an ordinary ginger cat, but he is anything but ordinary. He can actually communicate with his owner, Ordelia, a reporter. He can go around town, snooping for scoops which he delivers to Ordelia, who always protects her source. It’s a great life, until a new cat moves in. His name is Brutus, and he lives up to his name as a brute. His owner is the new detective on the force, and he is suspicious of the scoops Ordelia has been writing. She definitely can’t tell him she is getting her info from her cat, a source who is now being intimidated by Brutus. And how can Ordelia figure out who murdered the writer who was discovered in an outhouse if Max is too afraid to make his rounds? It’s a complicated mystery in an intriguing plot, and is peopled by interesting characters and cute cats. You don’t have to be a cat lover to enjoy this tale, but you do have to suspend your belief about ordinary cat behaviors!… (more)

This is the first book of this series I have read. It is definitely a whimsical, fun read where cats talk to their humans. Max and Dooley, cats of Odelia (PI) and Chase (police detective) help solve mysteries. In this story, cats are being stolen. Max and Dooley not only find the stolen cats, but also a dead body.
Odelia's mother and grandmother want a new kitchen remodel. They visited Mr. Kramer's kitchen store, but prices are sky high. A funny incident involving hacking occurs.
Another hilarious event happens when something happens to Odelia's parents' house.
I do not want to give anything away.
I assume that Max solves the mystery in the previous books like he did in this one.
Again, fun read.

The only reason I didn't bail is that I was too tired to pick another book to read.

The cover should indicate to you not to take this too seriously, as it is designed to be light and fun. Often — all too often — this means dull or silly or lame beyond words. The authors manage to strike just the right balance here, however, to make this enjoyable fluff. Once in a while, they walk that high wire between fun cozy fluff and too ridiculous to read, but they always manage to work in enough genuinely funny moments, and keep the story moving nicely along, to keep from falling. Felicity and Alice, and their respective beaus, head for Windmere Castle in England to do some wraith wrangling. Soon their employer is a ghost — murdered — and one of the beaus is kidnapped. There are ghosts, rats, some Russians, some Fabergé eggs, and some genuinely funny interactions which follow. A few things were eye-rolling but it moved at such a nice little pace that I rarely had time to dwell on it. Overall, good fun. I picked this up for free on Kindle and while I haven’t run out and picked up another, I probably will soon, and start at the beginning, just to have something frivolous but enjoyable to have on hand for times I’m in the mood. Nicely done.… (more)
