The programs in this book were developed on an Altair 8800b Microcomputer System running Disk Extended BASIC 4.1. The programs ran with very little modification on my TRS-80 Model I Microcomputer running Disk BASIC. (Both of these versions of BASIC were early Microsoft products by Bill Gates and Paul Allen.)

This book has four sections of programs. The programs in Section 1 deal with marketing and sales. The programs in Section 2 are personnel programs. The programs in Section 3 cover the area of general administration. The programs in Section 4 consist of statistical programs and file handling utilities.

There are 70 programs in this volume. They have to be keyed in manually. There are helpful flowcharts at the beginning of each section to facilitate understanding of system operations.

This book was written before the IBM PC hit the market. The programs in this book have to be typed in manually. All of the database applications work with sequential files, not random access files. Better hardware and better programming languages would soon render the programs in the book obsolete.

The author introduces the purpose of this book by saying, "The objective of this book is to provide a set of business-application systems that will allow your computer to start paying for itself the moment it enters your office."

The book includes a simple bookkeeping system, an accounts receivable system, a perpetual inventory system, a periodic inventory system, general financial programs, and general production programs.

All of the programs in this book were developed, tested, and run on an Altair 8800b Microcomputer System running Disk Extended BASIC Revision 4.1. The programs ran on my TRS-80 Model I, Level II BASIC, with very little modification.

The programs had to be entered at the keyboard by hand.
