Texas Traditions is all about the culture of Texas throughout the years. The Lone Star State has always kept its own unique culture. There are pictures and information on places in the state. Also, it has small biographies on important people who lived there over the years. I enjoyed reading it and learning about Texas culture.

Nice book for older children to learn about famous woman photographer, Dorothea Lange. I read the biography, but mostly got it for the pictures after reading "Learning to See," a fictionalized autobiography of her life.

Ringgold studied art in college and begun to created artwork based on the ideas and techniques she studied in college, but it wasn't untiled she begun to combine the ideas and techniques learned in class with the elements of who she was a person did her artwork flourished. Ringgold began to express her ideas, views, and awareness of the world through her artwork. The most interesting art pieces in the book show how Ringgold combined her love of Europen style of artwork with her ethnicity and history. The name of this collection is called "The French Collection Part I". Other works by Ringgold is a series of abstract paintings that reflect her emotions during the time in her life she experienced great loss. This would be a book to share with an artist who is having trouble creating their own personal style, a way to introduce how different art media can be combined, and also to introduce an artist that may be unknown to many.… (more)
