Debussy: A Painter in Sound by Stephen Walsh

This is an important addition to the studies of Claude Debussy. It is thorough and well-written. As a pianist who has performed Debussy I appreciated the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the composer while gaining a new appreciation for his revolutionary contributions to music.

Stravinsky: The Second Exile: France and America,… by Stephen Walsh

"...Walsh’s biography sheds a rather interesting light on the fact that Stravinsky wasn’t this great powerful omniscient figure, but, wonderful composer that he was, he was subject to all the usual difficulties… It was an eye-opener because it’s a counterweight to the slight myth-making of Craft’s conversation books, which for Stravinsky were really a way of making some money...."
