It had a good premise and promise, however, the "spicy" sections got really good, and then the chapter ended. I would call it a blue-balls book.

It's quite rare for me to write a review. It's even more rare that I wish I could give negative stars; this would get -2.
This was a tedious sample/intro, with shallow characters. Save your time for something else.

This was marketed as a beauty and the beast retelling with a darker mafia/drug lord backdrop. Instead we see a girl get kidnapped and kept in a cell with only a mattress and a toilet for weeks. Her only way out is to fully submit to the MMC in every way (including sexually, obviously) and this finally happens past the 30% mark (so we are waiting a long time for her to escape that cell).

If you like some of the darker romance genre / bdsm / sub & dom dynamics that is fine and dandy, everyone enjoys different kinks. But where this could have been a sexy willing sub/dom relationship… it just comes off as nothing more than Stockholm syndrome. If she doesn’t continue to submit and please him she gets to go back to a cell? Even though she’s portrayed as secretly being attracted to the MMC over time… that only seems to develop as she becomes more and more desperate to gain back some freedoms. I was never convinced it was genuine, only fear driven.

Overall this needed way more consent and way less imprisonment. DNF

Heartless who?

The continuing story of Carter and Aria. How much pain are these two people in? And how can they help one another if they aren't honest? The fight between crime lords has this couple struggling. Still compelling, still not over. (If you saw my review for book 1, you know that I resented having to buy this. Now I have to buy book 3 - and probably 4 - but they are a decent length. I saw an 83 page story for more than I paid for this.)
