Anansi, a trickster spirit in the West Indies, northern South America and southen USA, descended from Kwaku Ananse, a trickster spirit and god of stories of the Akan people (primarily in Ghana, Ivory Coast and Togo in west Africa) often depicted as a spider, human or a combination of the two.
