Series: Kydd (15)
Captain Thomas Kydd’s beloved L’Aurore is taken out of commission and her faithful company is disbanded. Awaiting final construction of a new ship, Kydd is called to witness in the court-martial of Sir Home Popham. Caught confiding his true feelings about the proceedings to a friend, Kydd is swiftly reassigned to the mutiny ship Tyger; whose undisciplined crew still suffers under a lingering malevolent influence. And it’s more than just Kydd’s brilliant career that may be cut short when three Prussian frigates under the French flag face this crew in a cataclysmic battle . . . Book 1 6—the Kydd Sea Adventures Praise for the Series— “High-seas adventure, ocean battles, bloody melees, and general villainy . . . With the last two books, Stockwin’s series is approaching the level of C.S. Forester’s Hornblower books.”—Publishers Weekly “Balances historical perspective with the excitement of a full broadside assault. Comparable to C.C. Humphreys’s Jack Absolute series and the naval tales of the great Patrick O’Brian, Stockwin’s engaging novel reveals the author’s acumen for the history and spirit of the time.”—Library Journal “Historians will forget they’re reading fiction while story-lovers won’t mind that they’re learning history.”—Jason R. August 2013 Batch
Giveaway Ended: August 26 at 06:00 pm EDT
Series: Kydd (13)
"Stockwin's 13th novel of Napoleonic naval warfare featuring the redoubtable Captain Thomas Kydd of the Royal Navy features more high-seas adventure, ocean battles, bloody melees, and general villainy. After capturing the Cape Colony in South Africa in last year's excellent Conquest, Kydd and his crew are anxious for action. It's 1806 and Kydd is the captain of the frigate HMS L'Aurore. When Commodore Popham decides to sail his small British squadron to South America to foment revolt against the Spanish, Kydd agrees to support the wild scheme without knowing that Popham plans to start a deadly war without the proper authority; the plan is ill-conceived, poorly supported, and doomed by treachery. Though the British capture Buenos Aires, the locals don't rise against the Spanish, as had been expected, and while Popham achieves his objective, Kydd and the crew are beset by massive enemy forces and surprising betrayals. Neither Kydd's imaginative determination, nor the courage of his men, seem likely to prevent disaster. Stockwin, who based this tale on a factual debacle easily overlooked by history, is a master of Napoleonic-era atmosphere and rich descriptions of the military, politics, and society. With the last two books, Stockwin's series is approaching the level of C.S. Forester's Hornblower books." —Publishers Weekly

Series: Kydd (10)
Rumors fly of Napoleon’s planned invasion of England, and British naval commander Thomas Kydd is sent to liaise with American inventor, Robert Fulton. The American has created "infernal machines" that can wreak mass destruction from a distance. Fulton believes that his inventions—the submarine and torpedo—will win the day for the power that possesses them, and Kydd must help him develop the devices. Despite his own scruples, believing that standing man-to-man is the only honorable way to fight, Kydd agrees to take part in the crucial testing of these weapons. In the end, their fire power just may decide the fate of England!
