From the author's website, "They are not a series in the sense of having continuing characters or a common setting. Instead the characters all have a strong relationship with their hometown. You will read about characters who have never left home and those who are too afraid of their memories to come back; one character is caught between what he would like to achieve for himself outside his hometown and the fact that his young son lives there; still another character uses the soap opera which she writes to try to re-create the hometown life she wishes that she had had."
