The pink cylinders are for sitting on (or jumping on and off of, if you are young enough). But the rest of the road design is fun, too. No, you don't have to tread carefully. You will not stub your toe or trip and fall on your face. As the next pic will show, each piece is made of 2 back-to-back pieces of durable and very flexible rubber. Truly ingenious.
